Ficus Bengalensis – Ø12 cm – H25 cm
🌿 Elegant velvety foliage • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🏙️ Compact tropical plant
The Ficus Bengalensis, also known as the Indian Banyan, is an elegant and refined tropical plant, recognized for its large oval leaves of a soft tender green velvet. Its soft-to-the-touch foliage and pronounced veins create a soothing plant presence that instantly transforms your space into an urban oasis.
Native to the tropical forests of India and Southeast Asia, this species naturally grows into large sacred trees revered for millennia. In its natural habitat, the Banyan develops spectacular aerial roots and dense foliage that shelters a whole biodiversity. Indoors, it retains its natural elegance with its characteristic velvety leaves. Compact and easy to care for, it is perfect to start or enrich your urban jungle, bringing a touch of wild and sophisticated nature to your interior.
Exposure & Location
The Ficus Bengalensis enjoys bright indirect light. It tolerates various lighting conditions well, making it a versatile plant to create your urban jungle, even in small spaces.
- Exposure: bright indirect light to partial shade.
- Ideal for: jungle office, plant shelf, coffee table, or windowsill.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, without sudden changes.
- Substrate: rich, light, and well-drained (green plant potting soil + perlite).
Verdeia tip: avoid moving it frequently — Ficus plants do not like changes in location.
Watering & Care
- Watering: moderate; let the surface of the substrate dry slightly between waterings.
- Drainage: essential to prevent root rot — use a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity: appreciates a slightly humid atmosphere; occasionally mist the foliage.
- Fertilizer: every 3 weeks in spring and summer, with diluted liquid fertilizer.
- Winter rest: reduce watering in autumn and winter.
Gently clean the large velvety leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their softness and shine — a soothing ritual that strengthens your connection with your urban jungle.
Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations
With its velvety foliage and compact form, the Ficus Bengalensis is an essential piece to build your urban jungle. It brings a touch of softness and elegance that contrasts perfectly with plants with more graphic foliage.
- To pair with: Monstera (cut leaves), Philodendron (shiny leaves), Calathea (graphic patterns), or Pothos (trailing foliage) to create a varied and balanced urban jungle.
- Ideal pot: white ceramic or natural terracotta for a bohemian style, matte anthracite pot for a contemporary look.
- Urban jungle atmosphere: perfect for a green office, a plant shelf, a tropical reading corner, or a nature-inspired coffee table.
Its compact size makes it ideal for small urban spaces and grouped plant arrangements — create your mini jungle on a shelf or piece of furniture!
Verdeia Tips
- Avoid frequent moves: the Ficus can lose leaves when stressed.
- Maintain a stable temperature without cold drafts.
- Repot every 1 to 2 years in spring with fresh, well-draining substrate.
- If some leaves fall during a location change, it’s normal — the plant is adapting.
- Very easy to care for: ideal for beginners wanting to create their first urban jungle.
